The Playground, Pavilion & Gazebo
Mary Jo Peckham's rebuilt playground is a three-story climbing structure with unusual climbers and spinners on soft rubber surfacing, next to a reservable pavilion, a gazebo and picnic areas.
What's here
- A fully rebuilt, three-story playground.
- Climbers, spinners, slides and ground-level play features on rubber surfacing.
- A reservable pavilion and picnic areas.
- A gazebo, and restrooms at the center.
Good to know
Reserve the pavilion through Harris County Precinct 4, from 7 to 45 days ahead. Glass containers are prohibited, pets must be on a leash 6 feet or shorter, and alcohol is allowed only with a confirmed pavilion reservation and constable security.
The playground
The rebuilt playground rises three stories, with climbers, spinners and slides that parents and bloggers call unusually fun, plus ground-level pieces reached by ramps for younger and less mobile children. The soft rubber surface is easier on falls than mulch. There's little deep shade at midday, so mornings and evenings are best in summer.
Pavilion and gazebo
The pavilion can be reserved for birthdays and gatherings through Precinct 4's online reservations, between 7 and 45 days in advance; when it isn't reserved, it's first come, first served. The gazebo is a pretty spot for photos or a quiet lunch, and there are picnic areas around the park.
Park rules
Precinct 4 parks prohibit glass containers and metal detectors. Pets must be immunized, non-aggressive and on a leash 6 feet or shorter. Alcohol is allowed only with a confirmed pavilion reservation and constable security. You can bring a propane or charcoal grill to open picnic areas.
Tips
Bring sunscreen and water, and use the restrooms in the Aquatic & Fitness Center during its hours. A birthday here can include free mini golf for guests: ask the front desk about borrowing enough putters for a group.
